There’s nothing wrong with hosting a baby or bridal shower in the backyard or at a local restaurant. Maybe you’re leaning towards a banquet hall or a cutesy tea house. Really, when you start thinking through the options — all the spots where a shower is doable — figuring out the perfect space can start to feel a little overwhelming. Here’s the secret, and it works every time: choose a spot where everyone, especially the mama or bride-to-be, can relax and enjoy the festivities. In downtown Reno, Flow’s Boutique Venue is a standout, and we say that after hosting countless showers and sprinkles of all shapes and sizes. Let’s talk through what makes Flow’s such a great option.
But First: What Makes a Shower Venue Work?
This is a great question. Whether you’re hosting at home or dropping money to rent a space, remember (and honor) these three non-negotiables:
The guest of honor shouldn’t be working. If the bride or mother-to-be is the one directing people to the bathroom, topping up drinks, apologizing for the dog or doing anything other than being thoroughly spoiled, the shower venue failed. That’s the whole test. The goal is to choose a space that absorbs all of that, so she can sit down, sip something delicious and just enjoy the company.
Easy parking. No one wants to hike two blocks in a sundress hauling a diaper tower or a giant basket of towels. Make it easy on your guests and be honest with yourself: if there are 35 cars outside, will this parking situation be a nightmare?
Guest lists can (and usually do) multiply. What starts at 30 can end up at 45 once the aunties get involved. Mentally planning for where the list is likely to go, not where it begins, steers you toward a space that can handle it.
What Makes Flow’s Boutique Venue Different
We’re different from the jump — our space is a renovated 1924 Victorian. It’s not a ballroom. It’s not a banquet hall. It’s not your best friend’s cute-but-cramped condo. You don’t have to worry about pushing furniture against the walls or hauling in a mish-mash of metal folding chairs or camouflaging family photos with too much decor. Flow’s has the bones of a home, but it’s a venue — nobody lives here (and honestly, that’s a good thing).

Our restored home has the kind of character you can’t fake, and it does 90% of the heavy lifting for you. The architecture, that porch, the patio space, and hello, that stunning kitchen? A few thoughtful decorations layered on top changes everything, personalizing the space to your bride or mother-to-be and the theme of the day. Go big or keep it simple, with some flowers, a beautiful tablescape, maybe a hand-lettered welcome sign. Really, this Victorian handles the rest (with no conference-room carpet to determinedly ignore).
Pro tip: the best showers are shaped around the guest of honor, not pulled from a template. Think about her favorite colors, her favorite people, the food she's actually been craving.
That sounds like a small thing, but it’s really the thing. The difference between a shower that feels heartfelt and one that feels generic is almost never budget; it’s whether the details were chosen for her or chosen because they were the default. We’ve hosted afternoon teas and taco bars, sprinkles for second babies that the mama insisted didn’t need a fuss and bridal showers that turned into the best evening of the whole wedding season. None of them looked alike.
Our indoor and outdoor spaces make it simple and intuitive for people to gather, settle in, have a bite, toast the guest of honor and watch her open gifts if that’s on the agenda. Plan activities or don’t — well-planned foods and drinks create their own rhythm.
Room for Everyone Who Shows Up
We host showers of up to 50 guests, and we can handle a few more by special request.
Fifty turns out to be a really useful number. It’s enough for her sisters, the college roommates, the work friends and both sides of the family — without tipping into an event where she spends the whole afternoon greeting people at the door instead of actually visiting with them. That’s the line we watch, and it’s why we'd rather talk through your list with you than just take a booking and hope.
And because we’ve all seen guests pulling folding chairs out of a trunk: tables and chairs are included at no extra cost. You’re not renting them, sourcing them, or picking them up on the way (you’re so welcome!).
The Parking Thing (Since We Brought It Up)
Again, it’s a non-negotiable, and at Flow’s, it’s a non-issue. There’s street parking in front of our venue on Bell Street, but the better option is the parking lot right behind us. We’re just through the gate, which keeps things easy for everyone (including grandmothers).
What It Costs
We run on two seasons, and the difference is enough that it’s worth checking which one your date falls in before you fall in love with a Saturday.
Winter — November through March
$175/hour + $200 cleaning fee, two-hour minimum
Half day (6 hours): $1,000, cleaning fee included
Full day (12 hours): $1,800, cleaning fee included
Summer — April through October
$300/hour + $200 cleaning fee, three-hour minimum
Half day (6 hours): $1,500, cleaning fee included
Full day (12 hours): $3,000, cleaning fee included
The Half-Day Math
Here’s something we’d rather just tell you than have you figure out after the fact: for most showers, the half day beats the hourly rate.
Run a four-hour winter shower on the hourly rate and you're at $700 plus the $200 cleaning fee — $900 total. The half day is $1,000. That extra hundred dollars buys you six hours instead of four, plus linens and propane heaters included. It means more time and less stress to get everything ready, enjoy the shower itself and not feel like you have to start physically pushing people out the door.
Summer works out the same way. Four hourly hours land at $1,400 all in. The half day is $1,500.
In other words, if you’re booking three hours or fewer, hourly wins. Anything past that, ask us about the half day.
Add-Ons
On the hourly rate, linens are $25 each and propane heaters are $30 each if you want the patio toasty. Both are included in half- and full-day bookings, along with the cleaning fee.
A Few Things Worth Knowing
Your booked hours are your event hours. Setup and teardown happen inside the block you reserve, so build them into your timeline. This is the single thing most first-time hosts underestimate. A two-hour shower usually wants a four- to six-hour booking, and nobody has ever told us they wished they’d reserved less time. What can we say? Flow’s is the kind of place that makes people want to linger.
Saturdays go first. Three to six months out is the right lead time for a weekend date, and longer if you’re eyeing April through October. Weekdays and Sundays are much easier to land, and they’re cheaper by season.
Reno weather has opinions. The propane heaters are on hand because a gorgeous April afternoon can turn into a wind advisory by three o’clock. The indoor space holds your whole list if that happens, so the patio is always a bonus instead of a bet.
